Mayakoba, the renowned 595-acre luxury resort enclave nestled on Mexico’s Riviera Maya, is excited to unveil a new four-day celebration honoring Day of the Dead. This unique event will run from Thursday, October 31 to Sunday, November 3, 2024, offering guests an immersive experience in this deeply-rooted Mexican tradition.
As Mayakoba hosts its inaugural Day of the Dead festivities, guests will have the exclusive opportunity to explore the rich tapestry of Mexican culture and the significance of this vibrant holiday. Booking accommodations through the Mayakoba website will grant access to the special programming and activities designed for the event.
The celebration will be elevated by the presence of four distinguished luxury resorts within Mayakoba—Andaz, Banyan Tree, Fairmont, and Rosewood. Each resort will contribute its own unique touch to the destination-wide festivities, providing bespoke experiences that enhance the holiday spirit.
Day of the Dead, with origins tracing back to the ancient Aztec civilization, is a time to honor and celebrate the lives of deceased loved ones. During this period, it is believed that the souls of the departed return to the living world to be reunited with their families. This cherished tradition involves creating altars adorned with offerings and favorite foods, visiting gravesites to clean and decorate, and sharing stories, music, and meals to welcome and celebrate the return of these honored guests.
Join us at Mayakoba this fall to partake in this extraordinary celebration, where cultural immersion and luxury intertwine to create an unforgettable experience.
“An appreciation of local history and culture is a key pillar of the destination and continues to inspire every aspect of the Mayakoba experience,” says Kappner Clark, executive vice president of sales and marketing at RLH Properties, the ownership group behind Mayakoba. “Our Day of the Dead events are designed to bring this holiday to life for our guests in a community-driven and authentic way.”
